Hey!
I'd really like to get into this! I go to kelvingrove alot when it's sunny (usually end up gettin a bit tipsy ) and have watched u guys going about on longboards and thought it looks absolutely amazing! So i've decided i'm gonna give it a go! I've never been on a board with wheels, though i go snowboarding when i can afford it, so am expecting a fair few bruises!
got a question for ya...
What would be a good, fairly cheap board to start off on? and is there any place in Glasgow that sells longboards? I know theres a few board shops, but have no idea if they sell longboards.

Hey there fella, Welcome
There are two places that sell boards in Glasgow: Clan skates (just off dumbarton Rd across the football pitch from the lismor) and boardwise.
Clan is a local independent store that sells completes (fully built boards) and components. Abie (the older guy you probably most see in the park) works in there from time to time he a good guy to talk to about a beginner board...
Boardwise just tend to stock a few completes...someone in there recommended a Lush samba for a beginner (which is not ideal, the buyer was also told that it had suspension, just cos there are springs in the trucks!) so I'm not sure they know what they are talking about!
Another good place to look is Lush longboards website...www.lushlongboards.com They are good guys based in Bristol that totally stoke the UK scene and produce quality boards. Just browse about and get an idea of what type of board you want.
Other brands:
(there are hundreds out there, but here is a selection of what might be readily available:
Sector nine: American, solid products brand but a bit of a beast of a cooperate company
Gravity: Similar to above (american)
Mindless: A bit like farmfoods compared to the farmers market: I bet that there are no farmers involved in farmfoods and i bet there are no skaters involved in Mindless skateboards! (on the plus side they are cheap and will probably be fine for a year)
Urban Blue: again a company owned by a bit non specialised conglomerate!
Landyachtz: Canadian company...all round quality..owned by boarders for boarders!
Anyway...I could continue, but i'm sure you are board by now!
Also Make sure you keep an eye on this forum as we are talking about doing a board swap soon (everyone turn up and ride other peoples boards for a few runs), it'd be a great way to experience a whole range of decks.
and when you buy one then post here for when you are skating and we;ll hook up.
Cheers
Will.

As said b4 Lush are awesome! Iv got a whole bunch of Lush boars (which u can buy in Boardwise) there an awesome product and the warrenty on them covers everything from water damage to getting run over by those big nasty 4wheeld monsters that patrol the streets!
Stay away from anything that looks complex until u realy understand your boards and abilitys...id say go for a Lush Makonga.
Love Diamond

yeh, hookin up would be a no bad idea, even just for the banter and to pick up some tips! As i said before, i see allot of you guys going about kelvingrove, so i'll maybe say hello next time i'm there. i'll look about these boards allot, see what's happenin.
cheers again, Gav
